Best Management Practices
Description: The Huron Clean Water Project is a voluntary cost-share grant program that is funded through the County of Huron. There are several different funding categories available, from tree planting and cover crops, to manure storage decommission and wellhead upgrades.
This branch of the program is used for: Installing grassed waterways, terraces, and berms to reduce soil erosion and nutrient loss on agricultural land.

Description: As part of the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program (RALP), provides funding to support Ontario farmers in making their agricultural lands more productive and resilient. The Program provides funding to support projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and sequester carbon.
The reduced tillage branch of the program includes:
$30/acre for moderate reductions to tillage practices.
$50/acre for more substantial reductions to tillage practices.

Description: The Initiative helps primary producers and processors address local labour force challenges in the agri-food sector with pilot projects that implement:

Program Area: Ontario
Application Timeline: Applications accepted until September 2, 2025 or the funding has been allocated, whichever is first.
Description: COJG provides funding to help businesses train their employees and update their skills. This helps employers ensure their workforce has the right skills to adapt to a changing economy. The grant lets employers choose who to train, and what skills to focus on to address their needs. Employers can use the grant to:
train existing employees to upgrade their skills
train new hires, whether currently employed elsewhere or unemployed
Employers and the government share the costs of the training. An approved third-party training provider must deliver the training.
$ Available: Up to $10,000. Employer pays 1/6 of the training costs.

Description: The Spark Mentorships and Grants Program will match selected applicants from the region with a tourism mentor, provide a $3,000 grant and additional partner support to help take their new tourism ideas to the next level of development.

Description: Under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, Ontario farmers who are experiencing financial difficulty may qualify to access financial advisory services to complete a Farm Financial Analysis.
The Farm Financial Analysis:
provides a review of your farm business’ past financial performance
provides an analysis of the current business climate
develops objectives and identifies options to meet profitability and sustainability goals.
A farm business’s eligibility under the financial difficulty provision will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Documentation supporting financial difficulty must be provided with the application. Approved applicants may receive 100% cost-share, paid directly to a qualified farm advisor after the project is complete and all required claim documentation is received and deemed satisfactory.

This branch of the program is used for: Establish over-wintered cover crops with three or more species that help improve soil health, reduce nutrient loss, and improve water quality. Grant is $15 per acre to a maximum of 150 acres.

Description: Experimental Acres supports farmers in Dufferin, Grey and Wellington Counties with the implementation of sustainable agricultural best practices.
The program is designed to de-risk the learning season of a new sustainable farm practice by providing financial support of up to $3,000 as well as support for designing a trial to test the practice on farm, and by helping them access mentorship or learning resources related to the project.
Practices could relate to crops, livestock, or innovative technology/management systems. They should benefit the environmental sustainability of the farm.

Description: Tree and shrub planting in open spaces and riparian areas, as windbreaks, shelter, and forests and to generate future revenue or old growth.

Description: The living snow fence program is a partnership between Grey County and rural landowners. It aims to use trees and shrubs to create windbreaks that prevent drifting snow and hazardous driving conditions on County roads.
Eligibility: Landowners with property in high-need areas, especially those with at least 100 meters of frontage on a County Road.
Tree & Shrub Program Process:
Identify areas for tree planting
Collaborate with Grey County staff to determine tree locations
Enter a 20 year agreement with the County
Grey County covers all planting and maintenance costs
Corn Rows Option: Farmers can leave 12 rows of corn standing as an alternative to trees, with compensation based on fair market value.

Description: The MVCA Stewardship department regularly has funding available for reforestation, rural stormwater management and agricultural BMPs. The perennial warm season pastures branch of the program includes:
$500/acre for establishing and maintaining perennial warm season pastures on lands currently in annual crop rotations
